Sausage Green Bean Potato Casserole Recipe

Sausage Green Bean Potato Casserole Recipe

On a winter weekend, when you want to light up the kitchen and enjoy a soothing casserole, this sausage spinach and potato casserole is an excellent recipe to prepare. When I made this dish, I used a chicken-apple sausage, but you may use any flavor sausage.

There is a possibility that you will not have sufficient time to prepare this casserole on a weeknight; however, you can also prepare it the night before and bake it the following day.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of chicken apple sausage, cut crosswise and sliced to a thickness of 1/4 inch
  • 2 tablespoons of butter that is unsalted
  • 1 onion, cut into small pieces
  • The garlic, one tablespoon
  • a half of a teaspoon of dried thyme
  • and freshly ground black pepper, according to personal preference
  • 3 tablespoons of flour that is all-purpose
  • low-sodium chicken broth, two cups’ worth
  • One-half cup of half-and-half
  • 1 and a half pounds of fresh green beans, cut in half
  • 1 and a half pounds of baby gold potatoes, cut in half
  • One kilogram of young carrots
  • 1 and a half cups of onions that were buy-fried

Directions

Step 1

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and oil a baking dish that is three quarts in capacity.

Step 2

While the sausage pieces are browning in a nonstick skillet over medium heat for three to five minutes, take them from the pan and place them in a large bowl.

Step 3

At a temperature of medium, butter should be melted in the same skillet. Cook the onions for about three minutes while stirring them until they become tender. Add garlic and continue to fry for another thirty seconds. Add thyme, then season with salt and pepper. Stir to combine.

Step 4

After sprinkling flour over the onions and garlic, stir the mixture for approximately one to two minutes, or until the flour has been absorbed. The chicken broth and half-and-half should be stirred in. Bring to a boil while stirring, then decrease the heat to a simmer and continue cooking while stirring for three to five minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and will coat the back of a spoon.

Turn off the heat and remove the skillet.

Step 5

To the bowl containing the sausage, add the green beans, potatoes, and carrots. Then, add the sauce and swirl it around so that all of the items are coated with the sauce. Transfer the mixture to the baking dish that has been prepared. Wrap with aluminum foil.

Step 6

Bake for forty-five minutes in an oven that has been preheated. Take off the foil, give it a swirl, and then dust it with cooked onions.

Step 7

Proceed to bake the casserole for approximately twenty minutes more, or until it is hot and bubbling and the onions have become somewhat crisped. Serve when still heated.
